How To Get the Attention of Your Perfect Client

Jun 13, 2024

Ignoring your perfect customers without a clue?

Weird question, right? But chances are, you're doing just that.

I’ve been guilty of it before. And I see businesses making this mistake left and right.

Once they figured out how to fix it? Growth went through the roof.

Let me break it down for you.

The Train Station Conundrum

Picture a packed train station - people everywhere, crowded, noisy, chaos. You HAVE to get my attention for something crucial.

How would you do it?

Ask each person if they've seen me?

With thousands there, not practical.

Just start yelling? Most would think you're nuts and ignore you.

Might even get hauled off to the loony bin.

The tried-and-true best way?

Shout my name.

Makes perfect sense. But what does this have to do with reaching your ideal client?

Bleeding Necks

When I work with clients, I ask: "Who is your perfect customer? The ideal fit for your product/service?"

Sometimes they say: "Everyone! We sell to everyone!"

No. You don't. Two reasons:

1. Not everyone needs what you offer.

2. If you try to appeal to everyone, you'll appeal to no one.

Your perfect client has a specific problem or desire. Something they really want.

In marketing, we call this a "bleeding neck" - an issue you want solved IMMEDIATELY. An itch you're desperate to scratch ASAP.

Reaching YOUR Perfect Client

Let me show you how this works in practice.

Say you're a dog trainer. You obviously sell to anyone with a dog.

But let's say your most profitable service is training puppies to stop chewing furniture and pooping inside.

So we're trying to reach people about to get a puppy, or who just got one and want behavior training.

The WORST way to reach those ideal clients? An ad like this:

Steve's Spectacular Dog Training

We train all dogs, breeds and ages for anything:

· Fetch training

· Leash training

· Dog socialization training

· Stopping destructive behavior when you're out

If you have a dog and want our training, call XXX-867-5309

On the surface it looks decent.

But it's so bland, vanilla, nondescript... no one will think "This is for ME!"

If you want to reach your perfect client, they need to have that EXACT reaction when seeing your ad:

"This is for me. This scratches my itch. This person gets my struggle."

Don't be afraid to stand out. In today's noisy world, it's the only way to reach customers.
